‘Slow’ equalities group loses funds
12 April 2012
THE equalities watchdog is to have £200,000 of funding withheld by the Government after taking too long to produce guidance on new legislation.
Home Secretary Theresa May has written to Trevor Phillips, chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, saying his organisation had missed a "critical milestone".
The move is an embarrassing setback for the watchdog. The government Equalities Office has repeatedly expressed concern about the quality of the commission's work.
