Tips on having a liberated sex life — and how to write about it — flew across the cocktails at last night’s Grazia Salon at Mayfair’s Momo, where journalist Bryony Gordon — whose first memoir, The Wrong Knickers, has just been published — was deep in conversation with authors Alexandra Heminsley, Elizabeth Day and Helen Walsh on the subjects of porn, feminism and one-night stands.
“Everyone says ‘you’ve been so honest’,” said Gordon. “And I’m like ‘but I’m not ashamed of any of it’. It’s a memoir — if I’d realised that I could have lied I would have written a much more flattering portrait of my life.”
Heminsley added: “When I was writing Ex in the City I was told that I could get away with anything, as long as I strongly implied all the men had massive cocks.” Aspiring memoirists, prick up your words.
