Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that he decided to hand Cameron Borthwick-Jackson his Premier League debut 'without any fear'.
The Red Devils secured a 2-0 victory against West Brom at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and the 18-year-old full back was introduced as a late substitute.
Van Gaal called on the youngster's services as he was short of options at left back but was not scared that the Manchester-born defender would fail to produce.
"I needed a left full-back because Marcos Rojo had played a few games in a row, so I have to take into account that it might be too much.

"I put Cameron in the line-up without any fear and I have to say he did very well," he told MUTV.
The Dutch tactician also explained that he has watched the youngster on a number of occasions and is in close contact with the club's coaching staff to assess whether any players are capable of stepping up to the first-team fold.
"I have seen him once or twice and I have been impressed by him.
"I knew that Marouane Fellaini was injured, so I talked with [Under-21s coach] Warren Joyce and asked what he had for me.
"I am always taking with him or [Under-18s coach] Paul McGuinness and Joyce said at the moment the left full-back is in good shape."
