Britvic on a downer as fewer go out

Soft-drinks maker Britvic today warned that it would be hit by the falling numbers of people going to the pub for a vodka and orange.

With the ban on smoking, consumer confidence collapsing and household bills on the rise, fewer people are visiting Britain's pubs and buying Britvic's juices and other drinks.

Britvic's sales in pubs are deteriorating, with the company today predicting that part of its market would remain challenging.

Elsewhere, the performance was better, with still drinks sales up 7.8% in the take-home market as drinks for a healthier lifestyle like sports drink Gatorade, juices and squashes sold well.
