Club Med counts cost of euro crisis as bookings dip

Feeling the pinch: holiday bookings are down at Club Méditerranée
7 June 2012

French holiday group Club Mediterranee today said that bookings across Europe had fallen by 2.7% in the last four weeks and warned core profits would not be as high as hoped.

The group said overall bookings were down only 1.1% during the last month with more travellers coming from America and Asia than last year.

But it said the eurozone crisis was still deterring consumers from arranging their holidays.

While first-half profit margins were in line with expectations at 10.9% of sales, the group warned that they were now likely to drop to around 9% for the full year.

First-half revenues met analysts expectations at €798 million (£647.7 million) but a 78% rise in profits to €17 million which included asset sales were lower than analysts had expected.
