Eco City Vehicles, the supplier of the London Mercedes Vito cab, took advantage of its rival Manganese Bronze’s collapse last year to boost its share of the market.

Sales of Vitos jumped from 331 vehicles to 561 and it now claims four out of every 10 new cab sales in the capital. But weaker after sales for parts for Manganese vehicles held overall revenue growth back to 38% at £30.5 million.

Chairman John Swingewood said: “Demand for the Vito taxi continues to be encouraging this year as the new model gains popularity because of its superior quality, performance and attractive finance packages which together deliver a low total cost of ownership and make our offer highly competitive for the London taxi trade.”

Eco City’s losses were cut sharply from £2.2 million to £187,000.

Under new chief executive, Trevor Parker, the group is looking at moving into supplying other types of vehicles to “complementary niche markets”.
