The consumer slowdown hasn’t reached the poker industry.

Online gaming company 888 Holdings said today its profits will be better than the City has realised after a strong third quarter.

The group behind the 888 casino, poker, sport and bingo brands said revenue was up 7% to £57 million in the three months to September as 12.5 million customers bet with vigour.

Nick Batram at Peel Hunt said: “888 is demonstrating that an online business with a strong product proposition and excellent execution can grow the bottom line, even in markets where the costs of regulation are rising.

“The group has moved beyond recovery stage and is now benefiting from underlying economies of scale.”

Chief executive Brian Mattingley said: “Our core business has continued to perform well during the quarter, with our targeted marketing campaigns contributing towards our ongoing success and Spain outperforming our expectations.”
