News in brief: Ex-RSA man Haste takes Lloyd’s post, FirstGroup rolls out buses sell-off, Ryanair adds a million seats

Former RSA Insurance boss Andy Haste has been named as Lloyd’s of London’s deputy chairman. Haste will succeed Dr Andreas Prindl, who is retiring from the role.

John Nelson, Lloyd’s chairman, said: “Andy is a highly regarded leader in the UK insurance industry and his extensive experience in international financial services will be immensely valuable to Lloyd’s.”

FirstGroup rolls out buses sell-off

FirstGroup has announced the latest stage in the sale of bus businesses that bring in £100 million of revenues, flogging a Wigan-based operation to rival Stagecoach for £12 million. About 120 vehicles and 300 staff would transfer to Stagecoach, First said. In March it sold a 130-vehicle depot in Northumberland, and is in talks to sell a raft of other depots.

Ryanair adds a million seats

Budget carrier Ryanair today set out plans for nine new routes flying an extra one million Britons from three UK airports in 2013. Chief executive Michael O’Leary claimed the move would support 1000 new jobs. The expansion covers Manchester, Liverpool and East Midlands airports and destinations including Corfu, Krakow, Lanzarote , Marseille and Menorca.
