UK subs’ reactors job goes to Rolls

Rolls-Royce has signed a contract worth more than £1 billion with the Government to make reactor cores for the UK’s next generation of nuclear-powered submarines.

The investment, which is expected to protect about 300 jobs at the aerospace maker and its suppliers, could put a strain on the Coalition Government, which is split over plans to replace Britain’s four Vanguard submarines at an estimated £25 billion when they retire from service in the 2020s.
