Domino Printing Sciences profits shoot up

Domino Printing Sciences today posted a 65% increase in first-half underlying pre-tax profit, helped by strong volume growth.

The company, whose printers are used for stamping barcodes and best-before dates on food, drinks and other products, raised its interim dividend by 20% to 5.48p and said it remained confident about its prospects.

"We remain cautious about the European economic outlook but are seeing positive signs throughout the Americas and Asia," chairman Peter Byrom said.

For the six months to the end of April, Domino Printing posted an underlying pre-tax profit of £25.1 million, compared with £15.2 million a year ago.

Revenue rose 16.5% to £144.8 million and equipment volumes grew 30%.
