By Russell Lynch9 April 2018

The UK needs a decade of renewal to revive its stagnant productivity, John Lewis chairman Sir Charlie Mayfield said on Monday.

The comments came as business leaders gathered at the Bank of England for a summit on the crucial issue.

Mayfield’s productivity campaigning organisation Be The Business has unveiled a raft of measures to help the UK improve its performance, including mentoring for smaller businesses.

The meeting, attended by industry figures including BT boss Gavin Patterson and Rolls-Royce chairman Ian Davis, was chaired by Governor Mark Carney.

Sir Charlie said: “We have had 10 years of stagnation on productivity and we now need 10 years of renewal.”
