Shirt and Tie? Yes. Trousers? Not for David Beckham on Zoom

Victoria Beckham has revealed how husband David took dressing down during lockdown to whole new levels - sometimes doing his Zoom calls in his pants.

The designer said the former footballer often appeared smart on screen from the waist up but it was a different story off camera.

Speaking to Evening Standard editor Emily Sheffield, she said: “There were a few Zoom calls I caught him on, where he had a shirt and tie to here and literally his pants. The people he was on Zoom to would have been quite surprised if they had seen the full look.”

Beckham said she had “embraced” different tricks for dealing with the constant pressure of looking good on calls with “great caps for when your hair’s not looking great” and “sunglasses if you’ve had too much wine the night before”.

During the interview, which is part of the Evening Standard’s London Rising online events to spur on the capital’s recovery from the pandemic Beckham said the first lockdown had been “a novelty” to begin with.

She said: “I love to dress up, I love to put make up on, it’s who I am.

“I don’t just dress up to look a certain way for other people, I do it because it makes me feel good about myself.

“Obviously I was a little bit more relaxed at home but I still wanted to make an effort.”
