Radley, the upmarket handbag brand famed for its Scottie dog logo, today made former Hackett boss Sven Gaede its new chief executive.

Gaede will take over from Roger Best who is retiring. He will assume his new role on 4 May having spent the last eight years at luxury brand owner Richemont in a variety of jobs including chief executive of Hackett, chief commercial officer at Dunhill, and head of Net-A-Porter.

Radley chairman Paul Mason said: "Sven was chosen from an impressive list of interested candidates. I am confident he has the right skills and relevant experience to build on the success of the Radley brand both in the UK and internationally."

Radley, which sells scarves, purses and sunglasses as well as handbags, said it has "continued to grow despite the tough economic environment".

It said sales will be up 10% in the year ending this month and it plans to open further stores to add to the nine so far in the UK including in Covent Garden, the King's Road in Chelsea and South Molton Street in Mayfair.
