Billionaire investor Warren Buffett today saw the food giant he helped to merge, Kraft Heinz, expand its recall of Singles cheese slices to 335,000 cases over choking fears.

Kraft recalled 36,000 cases across north and central America in July before expanding it to the British Virgin Islands, South Korea, Bermuda and Belize.

It comes after the company made an initial recall of 36,000 cases in the US, Puerto Rico and Grand Cayman of its famous American cheese slices following 10 consumer complaints about the packaging, including three instances of consumer choking.

Consumers alerted the company that thin strips of the individual packaging were sticking to slices.

The privately held company, which describes itself as "a global trusted producer of delicious food", admitted the issue now affects 10 times as many cases as it first thought.

Consumers who purchased the product are encouraged to return it to the store where they purchased it for an exchange or full refund.
