I was delighted to see the Mayor has approved Chelsea’s plan for a new £500 million stadium.

Not only will this boost the local economy in Fulham, it means Chelsea fans such as me will have a much better chance of going to see games at Stamford Bridge.

The current capacity of 41,600 does not suit a club of Chelsea’s size or stature. There is a huge waiting list for season tickets and only in FA Cup games do you have a realistic chance of getting a ticket.

The extra revenue for the club from bigger ticket sales and new sponsorship opportunities will mean Chelsea can have a home ground to compete in size with Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium.

With West Ham already in the London Stadium and Tottenham soon to have a bigger home, this decision ensures we are not left behind.
