Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has reportedly told journalists getting a grip on the migrant crisis is and 'absolute priority', as the UK and France agreed a deal to tackle immigration.

The deal includes a 40% boost in officers on patrol, the use of high-tech equipment such as drones and night-vision cameras, and for the first time British staff will be embedded in French control rooms.

The deal also includes a pledge to invest in French reception and removal centres for migrants who are prevented from making the crossing to the UK.

Figures show 40,000 people have made the dangerous trip across the Channel so far this year.

The Evening Standard's Home Affairs Editor Martin Bentham discusses what it entails and how significant the new measures are.

Plus, former Head of UK Border Force Tony Smith explains why he's hopeful the deal will deliver results.
