Hot Tickets - Weekend comedy

5 April 2012

Here are the biggest comedy gigs in the capital this weekend...

Action for Homeless
Some are frankly greater than others but this is a fabulous bill, boasting poetry legend John Hegley, crisp-eating charity fan Stewart Lee, Kevin Eldon, Dave Johns, Bridget Christie, Andrew Bailey, Cath Drake and Simon Munnery. Friday 29 July, Bloomsbury Theatre, WC1 (020 7388 8822, thebloomsbury.com)

Holly Walsh/Pippa Evans
It is a sign of the healthy comedy climate that this club boasts not one but two fine female comedians previewing Edinburgh sets. The feisty opinionated Walsh tells the tale of how she tried to fly and survived, Evans is a wonderfully versatile character comic. Another top talent, Sarah Pascoe, hosts. Friday 29 July, Gipsy Hill Comedy Club, SE19 (020 8670 9990, gipsyhillcomedy.co.uk)

Daniel Sloss
One of the rising stars of stand-up warms up for the Edinburgh Fringe. Sloss is 20 but has the poise of someone much older. He has now reached that interesting career junction where he is leaving the schooldays and Xbox gags behind and developing a wider agenda. Immensely talented, very affable, hugely funny. Until tomorrow, Soho Theatre, W1 (020 7478 0100, sohotheatre.com)
