Gardens celebrating anniversaries of two of Britain’s best-loved children’s books are among the highlights of the Hampton Court Flower Show.

Charlie Bloom’s “The Tea Party” garden marks the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s Alice In Wonderland.

Meanwhile, Anthea Guthrie’s “Winnie the Pooh Begins His Journey” garden imagines the woodland shelter where AA Milne dreamt up his loveable bear 90 years ago.

Bloom took inspiration from the tea party in Carroll’s classic and imagined that the Mad Hatter was her client: “The planting and flowers are chaotic, very colourful and quite vulgar like the product of an insane mind.”

The designs were selected as history gardens by the Royal Horticultural Society to mark the 25th anniversary of its show, which starts on Tuesday (June 30).
