There was a double victory for 007 at the Evening Standard British Film Awards as Skyfall was voted Blockbuster of the Year in addition to Film of the Year.

The Blockbuster award, voted for by the public online, offered Evening Standard readers a chance to choose their favourite popcorn flick from the top ten highest grossing films of 2012 in the UK box office.

Skyfall was up against  fantasy novel adaptations such as The Hunger Games, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 as well as superhero movies The Dark Knight Rises and The Amazing Spider-Man.

Despite the strong competition, Sam Mendes’s British blockbuster won the day, claiming 34 per cent of the votes.

Skyfall, which marked the 50the anniversary of the Bond film franchise, is the first film to break through the £100m mark at the UK box office.
