Persian Cats let out the bag

It isn’t much fun being in an indie band in Tehran, according to Kurdish-Iranian director Barman Ghobadi.

Paying Western-influenced music is illegal, so when promising musicians Negar and Ashcan secure a gig in London, they are denied visas and passports. At a price, a forger is found. Though rough and ready, Ghobadi’s film looks entirely authentic and, since it was made two years ago, one can only imagine how much worse things are now.
