Nintendo makes surprise announcement of new Paper Mario: The Origami King for July release

The last Paper Mario game came out on the Wii U in 2016

Nintendo has just made a surprise announcement that a brand new Paper Mario game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in July.

The story unfolds as the Mushroom Kingdom has been ravaged by an origami menace called King Olly, who wants to fold the entire world.

This ambitious king has taken over control of Princess Peach's castle and brought the majority of Bowser's army into his fold.

Mario will be forced to team up with Bowser and King Olly's benevolent sister, Olivia, to be rid of the evil regent.

Nintendo announced the new game on Twitter, much to the surprise of everyone.

Paper Mario: The Origami King will bring with it a new system, blending together puzzle solving with battles against different enemies in turn-based combat

As you navigate the landscape, you'll be able to make use of Mario's new power called 1000-Fold Arms, allowing you to interact with the game by stretching and pulling to reveal new locations.

Paper Mario: The Origami King will be available on Nintendo Switch from July 17
