Hip hop artist and activist, Sister Fa, will make her London debut at the London African Music Festival on Friday September 20.
Sister Fa, born Fatou Diatta in Senegal, is a well-known hip hop singer in Berlin, where she now lives. Her Education sans Excision tour, which visits schools in Senegal, is funded by the London-based charity Orchid Project, which campaigns against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
This is an important issue for the singer, as she herself underwent FGM when she was four years old. She will now carry her campaigning message to UK for the first time at the London African Music Festival.
Other acts at the London African Music Festival include London-based poet Sabrina Mahfouz, Ugandan singer Jaqee, Congolese soul singer Fredy Massamba and female DJ duo Ill Na Na.
Now in its 11th year, the festival takes place in several venues across London from September 13-22.
