Labour leader and sometime grime hero Jeremy Corbyn is set to make an appearance at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

The Islington North MP is headed over to Somerset’s Worthy Farm to introduce US hip-hop supergroup, Run the Jewels, according to The Guardian.

Mr Corbyn is due to address crowds from main Pyramid stage on Saturday, and will be led on stage by festival founder Michael Eavis, 81, who called the left winger a “hero”.

Mr Eavis said: “We’re Corbyn fans, that’s the thing, “He’s got something new and precious, and people are excited about it. He really is the hero of the hour.”

Festival co-organiser and Eavis’ daughter, Emily, said: “It’s great to see somebody who’s engaging young people so much.”

“It’s been a really full-on few years, culminating in Brexit and Trump. It felt like the whole world was shifting dramatically to the right. I think that this is a breath of fresh air – people are like, ‘No, enough, we’re not going to let it happen.’”

Run the Jewels, a duo of MCs El-P and Killer Mike, make a good match for Corbyn. The pair, highly regarded for their politicised rhymes, were given the dubbed 'hip-hop's most intense truth-tellers' earlier this year by Rolling Stone magazine and Killer Mike is well known as a friend of Democrat politician Bernie Sanders.

It’s not the first time Mr Corbyn has been linked to music: throughout his election campaign, he was publicly supported by London grime stars JME, Stormzy and Novelist and appeared on stage with Reverend and the Makers at the Wirral Live festival, in front of a rather smaller audience than is expected at Glastonbury.
