Lil Yachty is a 19-year-old hip-hop star who came up rough in Atlanta and now takes pleasure from the simple things in life: sunshine, Nintendo, boats, shopping sprees down Rodeo Drive.

Within a few bars on his debut album he’s telling us how many friends he’s made this year: “And I still never took a sip of beer” (he doesn’t touch alcohol or drugs).

While the production has been professionalised Yachty would be the first to admit he’s not the finest rapper.

On Peek-a-Boo, he’s eager to tell us that his new “b****” blows his d*** “like a cello”. And yet how irresistible is that beat, the way his triplets float across the featherlight pulse.

The best and worst of teenage emotions.
