Scrubs star Zach Braff set to make his West End debut in own play

'Sensationally funny': Zach Braff
10 April 2012

Scrubs star Zach Braff is to make his West End stage debut in a play he wrote himself.

He will take the lead role of Charlie in All New People at the Duke of York's Theatre in February.

The New York Times hailed the play as "sensationally funny" on Broadway. Braff, 36, said: "It's always been a dream of mine to do a play in the West End. I never imagined I'd be lucky enough to have it be a play I'd written. I would have been happy to set up shop in Hyde Park."

He said he fell in love with London while celebrating his birthday here two years ago and was looking forward to exploring "during my downtime from the show".

His play tells the story of Charlie, who is marking his 35th birthday at his friends' Long Beach Island apartment when a motley parade of misfits show up. Braff said he chose not to appear on stage in New York so that he could "work on the play as we went". But the director, Peter DuBois, felt that they both knew the show well enough for him to play Charlie now.
