Berberian Sound Studio star Tom Brooke said his experience filming Game of Thrones’ blood-curdling “Red Wedding” massacre inspired his performance on stage.

He plays a sound engineer who finds himself working on a horror film where cast and crew are manipulated into making a graphic torture scene.

Brooke, who played Lothar Frey in one of Game Of Thrones’ most shocking episodes, said that stabbing his rival’s pregnant wife was “pretty horrible”.

He added: “They didn’t tell me I was going to do it either until the day ... which was really, really awful.”

He said all actors would recognise the way the play’s characters were manipulated into doing things they were uncomfortable with.

“Pretty much everyone’s been there — you know, ‘Oh go on’ — that happens, that definitely happens.”

Brooke said making the play was “a blast” with the cast trading lines in English and Italian to a soundtrack inspired by melodramatic Seventies horror films. He said: “I’ve never done anything like it before and that is the reason to do the job.”

Fellow actor and Our Girl star Luke Pasqualino, who was making his stage debut, said: “My heart was pounding more than it has for years. It was nerve-wracking to say the least.”
