Wendell Pierce has invited the Duchess of Sussex to see his theatre debut in the West End.

The actor, 55, best known for his role in The Wire and as Meghan’s on-screen father in legal drama Suits, will appear in Death Of A Salesman at the Piccadilly Theatre next week.

It is transferring from the Young Vic with Pierce in the lead role of Willy Loman. He has invited Meghan to come to watch the production during its time at the theatre.

Pierce said: “I haven’t seen Meghan yet, she was having a baby most of the year, but I reached out to her, so hopefully she’ll be coming to see the play.”

The actor from New Orleans — who fell in love with the stage as a 15-year-old seeing West End shows on a school trip — says after a year in London the city now feels “like home”.

He said: “It’s the place I’ve been living all year, and the celebration of culture here is wonderful.”

The actor, who is also a part-time jazz entrepreneur, has spent time off-stage at Ronnie Scott’s, the Jazz Café and exploring the British Museum.

Pierce has been in more than 30 films and tries to “complete a trifecta” — doing a play, a TV show and a film — every single year.

The actor spent a large part of 2018 jetting around the world shooting series two of Amazon Prime’s spy series Jack Ryan in which he plays an operative stationed in Moscow.

His character Jim Greer joins his protégé Ryan — played by John Krasinski — and a cast including Noomi Rapace in unravelling a conspiracy in South America. Pierce said filming in the jungles of Colombia was the “most vulnerable I have ever felt”. He said: “The bugs I have no problem with, but I was more concerned with snakes.”
