The first full trailer for Asif Kapadia’s documentary about the rise and fall of Amy Winehouse has arrived.

Simply titled Amy, the film traces Winehouse through the years from her childhood, her rise to fame as a striking new retro-styled voice in British music, her mainstream success, and the heart-wrenching demise and tabloid horror that followed.

Winehouse’s father, Mitch, has openly come out against Kapadia’s film, claiming that: “the film is a missed opportunity to celebrate her life and talent and that it is both misleading and contains some basic untruths.”

Amy Winehouse released only two albums – her debut Frank in 2003, and her break-out follow-up Back To Black in 2006 – but quickly became an iconic figure for her distinctive style, her explosive (sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad reasons) live gigs, and her troubles with substance abuse. She died in 2011 of alcohol poisoning at the age of 27.
