Anne-Marie Duff has slammed ITV’s Lorraine for misquoting her during an interview about Harvey Weinstein.

While discussing the allegations of sexual assault against the disgraced film boss on Thursday's show, a caption flashed up on screen saying that Duff had been "terrified" of Weinstein.

Following the broadcast, a representative for the 47-year-old said that she had never made those claims, branding it a ‘misleading’ and ‘false’ statement.

“It was a false statement made by ITV and misleading to include this tagline while discussing the Weinstein story,” the spokesperson said.

Viewers were quick to spot the error during transmission, and headed to social media to share their confusion.

One wrote: “Anne Marie duff didn’t say she was terrified of Harvey Weinstein like the caption said ??????” while another posted: “at not one point did she say that!!!!”

Duff did say that she felt issues like ‘respect for [women’s] very existence in the movie industry’ had to be addressed before other related issues like equal pay between the sexes could be achieved.

“We often talk about parity in pay – especially in our industry – between men and women but unless we address core issues like, respect for your very existence in the movie industry, then we cannot yet look at things like financial issues.”

She added: “As soon as you lift the big old rock, out crawls all the nastiness but it’s good – we only get rid of it by naming it.”

US film producer Weinstein has been accused of a string of sexual offences including rape, assault and harassment by actresses including Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ashley Judd and Rose McGowan.

Weinstein has admitted to some of the accusations but has ‘unequivocally denied' claims around non-consensual sex.
