BBC Breakfast accidentally broadcasts naked rower in report about amazing Yorkshire Rows mums

Four pioneering women crossed the Atlantic together – and often rowed in the buff

An inspiring news report about four Yorkshire mums who rowed across the Atlantic together included an unexpected surprise for viewers of BBC Breakfast.

The video report on the morning show included footage of the Yorkshire Rows team, who were at sea together for 67 days and five hours, and broke the world record for the oldest all-female crew to cross an ocean.

Due to the hot and wet environment, the team explained that they often rowed in the nude – and one naked clip made its way into the broadcast.

A shot of 45 year-old Helen Butters in which she was naked below the waist accidentally ended up on national TV.

“It was so wet all the time - to wear clothes all the time was a bit silly really because they'd just get wet and they'd take a long time to dry so it was easier (to be naked),” explained Janette Bennadi.

Butters admitted that she was “the last one to embrace my nakedness”, and was more hesitant about exposing herself to her peers – let alone the nation.

While some Twitter users found the blooper amusing, the BBC have taken steps to edit the clip out of future broadcasts.

“We quickly realised our error and edited the clip so it wasn't broadcast again later in the programme,” a spokesperson said. “We apologise to our guest and our viewers for the mistake.”
