Britain’s Got Talent 2017: Daliso Chaponda and Missing People Choir go through to the final

Amanda Holden's Golden Buzzer act Daliso Chaponda and singing group Missing People Choir will progress to the final round of Britain's Got Talent.

In the last of the semi-finals, Friday night’s episode saw the two acts fight of stiff competition from dancing clowns and singing impressionists to bag a place in Saturday’s grand finale.

A funnyman from Malawi who now lives in Manchester, Chaponda had Alesha Dixon and Holden “ugly laughing” during his performance and the entire audience cackling at his at times controversial jokes.

The viewers at home were equally impressed and the comedian won the public vote sending him straight through to the last stage of the competition. He was clearly ecstatic at the result, saying: “I’m so happy, it’s wonderful. Thank you.”

While Chaponda made the judges howl with laughter, Missing People Choir brought them to tears with a touching rendition of Birdy’s Wings.

The group consists of 30 men and women with missing family members who auditioned for the show in order to help raise awareness of those they’ve lost.

Despite a shaky solo at the start of their performance, the choir recovered well and won over the public, coming runner up in the vote.

The singers were overjoyed and emotional to have made it through, with one member explaining: “This is exactly what we wanted, to get our message out there”.

Singer Jamie Lee Harrison came out in the top three but his performance of Kelly Clarkson’s Piece by Piece wasn’t quite enough to take him all the way.

Other acts that were knocked out in Friday's show were Lords of Strut, Code 3, Jess Robinson, TNG Characters and Perfect Pitch Creation.

This week’s run of semi-final shows culminates in Saturday night’s live final, when the winner of Britain’s Got Talent 2017 will be crowned.

The line-up currently consists of DNA, Kyle Tomlinson, Issy Simpson, Matt Edwards, Tokio Myers, Ned Woodman, Mersey Girls, The Pensionalities, Daliso Chaponda and Missing People Choir.

Don’t go placing your bets just yet, however, as the wildcard judge’s choice act is yet to be announced.

But after Sarah Ikumu’s shock exit from the programme earlier this week, it looks likely that the singer, who was Simon Cowell's Golden Buzzer act, will make a return to the show.

The Britain’s Got Talent final will air on June 3 at 7.30pm on ITV.
