Debbie McGee made an epic blunder by accidentally revealing who got the boot from Strictly Come Dancing hours before the results show aired.

The entertainer, 58, was forced to think fast and cover her tracks with a bizarre story after letting slip that the Reverend Richard Coles had been eliminated.

McGee made the error on BBC Radio Berkshire, telling listeners: “[It was] very sad to see Richard go, the Reverend…”

McGee trailed off as she realised her mistake before quickly adding: “Oh. He fell over at one point so he went and had to be treated so we’re waiting to hear what happens in the results show tonight.”

Viewers later watched as Coles was kicked off the show after failing to impress the judges with his Paso Doble to Flash Gordon.

Coles and his partner Dianne Buswell found themselves in the dance-off with Simon Rimmer and Karen Clifton after the couples both received the fewest public votes.

Speaking about his time on the show Coles said: “It’s been a joy from beginning to end. Every minute I’ve enjoyed – even when Dianne was hissing ‘feet, frame’ through her teeth.

“It’s been a really wonderful experience. None of this would happen if it wasn’t for the fantastic crew and the judges too.”

Buswell said of her partner: “I have had the time of my life and he is a friend for life.”

McGee missed out on a spot in the top three this week after Craig Revel Horwood took aim at her Quickstep to Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off with Giovanni Pernice, insisting she had broken the “10 second rule”.

He said: “You broke the 10 second rule. You’re only allowed to have 10 seconds in the middle of the routine out of hold. And that seemed a lot longer. So I have to mark you down for that I’m afraid. But you danced very, very well. But rules are rules.”

Head judge Shirley Ballas also criticised the dance, adding: “I’m not a fan.”
