No matter how much we try, the UK never manages to propel itself out of the lower echelons of the Eurovision Song Contest leaderboard.

Could 2016 be the year that all of that changes? In all likelihood, probably not – but at least now we’ll have ourselves to blame, seeing as we get to choose our own song.

Yes, this year’s UK entry will be voted for by the public in an X Factor-style competition.

Titled Eurovision: You Decide, the one-off show will be broadcast on February 26, when Mel Giedroyc will be hosting the competition final at The O2 Forum, Kentish Town.

“I am a huge fan of the Eurovish and am honoured to be hosting this fantastic event,” Giedroyc said. “It’s very exciting that the Great British public will get the chance to choose who will be sent to Sweden and I know it’s going to be an amazing night.”

Six acts will be in the running to represent the UK at the grand event, which this year will take place in Sweden.
