The BBC has revealed which classic Eurovision acts will be featuring in their one-off show celebrating the competition’s history.

A number of favourites from the competition’s 64-year history have been selected for Eurovision: Come Together, which is part of the BBC’s alternative coverage after the song contest was cancelled due to the coronavirus crisis.

Swedish band Abba’s 1974 performance of Waterloo will be broadcast, alongside UK entries Making Your Mind Up by Bucks Fizz, from 1981, and Love Shine A Light by Katrina And The Waves, from 1997.

Viewers will be able to vote for their favourite performance from a list of 19 acts, which was selected by a panel featuring broadcasters Ken Bruce, Rylan Clark-Neal, Scott Mills and Mel Giedroyc.

At the end of the programme, presenter Graham Norton, who normally commentates on the contest, will reveal which song was most popular with the audience.

Fans at home will also be able to recreate classic performances from the competition from home as part of the programme.

Speaking about Eurovision: Come Together, Norton explained: “Eurovision offers a real escapism for people, which is something we need more than ever throughout these times.

“This year, people at home can celebrate the amazing spirit of the event and hopefully get the chance to take their mind off the current situation for a few hours.”

James Newman will be interviewed by Graham Norton

Singer-songwriter James Newman, who was meant to represent the UK in the 2020 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam, will be interviewed by Norton as part of a one-off documentary available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Eurovision: Europe Shines a Light will follow directly after, and will feature all the singers who were billed to perform this year singing from their living rooms in a non-competitive format.

Eurovision: Come Together will be broadcast on May 16 on BBC One
