It’s almost 70 years since Queen Elizabeth II and her consort Prince Phillip tied the knot in post-war Britain.

A new documentary from ITV celebrates the couples’ lavish ceremony, with contributions and insights from guests and those who were a crucial part of the big day.

Here’s everything you need to know about the show.

What’s it about?

While the royal wedding modern viewers are probably most familiar with is either that of Prince William to the Duchess of Cambridge, or that of the more ill-fated match Prince Charles and Princess Diana, the Queen’s 1947 nuptials were an equally lavish affair.

New documentary A Very Royal Wedding looks at how the Crown managed to pull off a suitably spectacular ceremony – quite a feat in downtrodden post-War Britain.

The programme will feature colour archive footage of the day as well as the Queen’s own private home movie footage.

Who’s presenting it?

Presiding over the programme will be Pointless host Alexander Armstrong. He will chat to insiders and guests at the wedding including Joan Collins and Sheila Hancock, and page boy Prince Michael of Kent, who will share their memories of the occasion.

The presenter will also see recreations of The Queen’s 3-carat diamond engagement ring and her 9ft high, 500lb wedding cake up close.

When’s it on?

A Very Royal Wedding airs Monday, October 30 at 9pm on ITV.
