James Haskell has admitted he struggled swapping his 4,000 calories per day for the rice and beans meals he faced eating in the jungle.

The former Rugby star, 34, was the fourth person to be voted out of the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! campsite during Tuesday night's epsiode.

In a post show chat with presenters Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly, James said his body did not react well to the drastic switch to the 400 calorie meals.

He told the duo: "I struggled yeah. My body started to shut down bizarrely...I was up and down the stairs all the time [doing chores], I was burning a lot of calories with all the adrenaline and the walking to the trials.

"In the evenings and afternoons I couldn't really focus, I had nothing in my legs and I was getting really tired.

"I didn't want to overly complain but I really struggled. Everyone in the camp was so kind to me...they all gave me a little spoonful of their food here and there."

After the chat, James left the jungle and had an emotional reunion with his wife, gym instructor Chloe Madeley.

She could be heard crying as the duo embraced and kissed.

While speaking to Adam Thomas later in the spinoff show, Extra Camp, James said he became emotional after seeing her.

He said: "There's just something in my eye. I love my wife, I missed her so much.

"We spent every day together for five years."

When quizzed by Adam if he thought about Chloe or food more in the jungle, he replied: "Obviously my wife."

James is the latest contestant to leave the jungle. Previous campmates who have left include actor Cliff Parisi, comedian Andrew Maxwell and Radio One DJ Adele Roberts.

The current series of I'm A Celebrity will end on Sunday night.
