Liam Payne startled fans by visiting a shopping centre dressed as a delivery man for new BBC show Sounds Like Friday Night.

The former One Direction bandmember joined presenter Greg James in transforming into a worker, complete with red and grey uniforms and cardboard boxes to fool unsuspecting shoppers.

Visitors to The Bentall Centre in Kingston were in for a surprise as Payne broke into one of his songs while riding a lift.

The new show sees James join co-host Dotty to front a mix of musical entertainment featuring interviews and live performances from the refurbished BBC Television centre in White Cit.

This week, after James and Payne had finished their shopping centre prank, the singer also pitched in with presenting duties and debuted his new single Bedroom Floor in the studio.

Liam Gallagher had also been booked to appear on the show, but pulled out of performing after taking advice from his doctor.

A few hours before the show was broadcast, he tweeted: “Sorry I can’t perform tnight on Sounds Like Friday Night as I’ve been told to rest my voice by my doctor as you were LG x [sic]”.

It’s not the only TV appearance Gallagher is scheduled to make this week. The ex-Oasis bandmember joins Jeremy Corbyn, The Osbournes, Ed Sheeran and Example on the sofa for a special celebrity edition of Gogglebox for Stand Up To Cancer.

Gallagher follows in the footsteps of estranged older brother Noel, who appeared on the show in 2014 with celebrity friends Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.

Sounds Like Friday Night next airs Friday, November 10 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
