Love Island dumpee Craig has revealed that he feels his ex-partner on the show Camilla “needed [him] to get over Jonny” who she had previously dated.

The contestant spoke to Standard Online after becoming yet another hopeful singleton to have their dreams of finding Love in the Majorcan villa dashed.

Tuesday night’s show saw Craig get the boot along with fellow new arrivals Chyna, Nathan and Danielle, after the foursome were revealed to be among the least popular contestants in the house.

Craig had become something of a social media sensation with viewers dubbing him ‘creepy Craig’ as he wasted no time making his intentions to fan favourite Camilla known.

However, after she called off their romance earlier this week, some fans turned on unlucky-in-love Camilla who was dumped by Jonny, accusing her of playing games with Craig.

Craig doesn’t agree, saying: “I don’t think I was used by Camilla. She did what she needed to do.She needed me to get over Jonny.”

The contestant isn’t bothered by his new nickname either, joking that he “likes creepy Craig” and “might use [the moniker] in his Tinder bio”.

Asked if he had any response for critics who felt he was simply trying to couple up with Camilla in the hopes that the popular contestant would boost his chances of winning, he hit back, stating: “I think that says more about their characters than it does mine. I went in there with real feelings. I built up strong feelings [for Camilla] over three or four weeks watching at home. All my friends and family knew that’s why I went in there.”

However, his family - specifically his three children, have proved a contentious issue for Craig, who has their names tattooed on his arm, after his ex-wife slated him on social media, claiming that he hadn’t informed them about his Love Island appearance.

The personal trainer made no attempt to refute the claims, commenting: “I was sworn to secrecy before I went on the show.”

But he admits he did tell his mum, with whom he left a video apologising to his three children for not having let them know about Love Island.

As for his ex-fiancée, who claimed he had plans to look after their children on the weekend he jetted off to Majorca, he had only a few words: “If my ex is bitter, I can only apologise.”

The dumped contestant still had plenty of praise for his popular Love Island co-star Camilla though, saying: “A girl like Camilla comes around once in a lifetime.”

Love Island continues nightly at 9pm on ITV2.
