Just when they looked like they were getting comfortable in the sun, two Love Island contestants will be heading home.

With the arrival of identical Italian twins John and Tony Alberti, there’s now an uneven number of boys and girls – and with the show’s emphasis on coupling up (hey, it’s called Love Island for a reason), a re-balancing is on the show.

Midway through Tuesday’s episode, the Islanders received a message, saying that two of the male contestants will be “dumped” if they’re not in a couple within 48 hours.

“News Alert! In the next 48 hours there will be a re-coupling. The 2 boys not in a couple at that point will be dumped from the island. #getbusy”

“As soon as the bombshell dropped […] the mood has dropped massively,” John said of the new twist.

Zoe and Rachel ended up on dates with John and Tony, with the option to either remain with their original partners, Omar and Luis, or pair up with the Albertis.

The “dumping” of the two male contestants is due to take place on Thursday’s show.
