Love Island viewers are rallying round favourites Alex George and Samira Mighty as the first double dumping looms, urging each other to do the right thing for the nation.

At the end of Thursday night’s episode, it was revealed that new couple Charlie and Hayley were at risk of being ditched from the Island too, as the viewers were left to vote for the couple they wanted to face the axe.

Samira and Alex have been coupled up since the beginning of the series, first by virtue of both being left single but then both sweetly picking the other during a recoupling to give them a chance to find happiness on the sun-soaked Spanish island.

And social media has a clear favourite couple of the two, as they tweeted their desire for resident friendzone couple Alex and Samira to stay put in Spain.

Writing on Twitter, one posted: “AS A NATION. AS A COUNTRY. AS A FAMILY. WE WILL STAND TOGETHER AND WE WILL SAVE SAMIRA AND ALEX SO THAT THESE 2 BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE CAN FIND TRUE LOVE IN THIS VILLA! #loveisland @LoveIsland #SAVEALEXANDSAMIRA.”

Another wrote: “Defo voting to save Samira and Alex because Hayley needs to go and I’m sorry but Charlie has to be collateral damage #LoveIsland.”

“If Samira and Alex stay tomorrow night then I feel like the UK will have redeemed itself for the whole brexit situation #loveisland,” added somebody else.

Even Paul Chuckle, of the Chuckle Brothers, has thrown his weight behind Alex and Samira, urging viewers to have let them stay.

The results of the vote will be revealed in tonight’s episode with the couple becoming the second and third to be dumped from the island, following Kendall Rae-Knight’s eviction after the first week.

Niall Aslam also left the villa earlier in the week of his own accord, citing “personal reasons”.

Love Island continues Friday at 9pm on ITV2.
