Piers Morgan makes Ron Burgundy autocue blunder by reading out 'Time Check' on GMB

His co-host Susanna Reid seemed delighted at his error

Piers Morgan got so wound up during a debate on veganism on Good Morning Britain that he fluffed his lines and read out his autocue instructions.

Morgan was wrapping up a segment about vegan and vegetarian alternatives to chicken on the ITV breakfast show, when he read out ‘time check’ on the autocue instead of giving viewers one.

He said: “Quorn fake chicken, it’s disgusting. Enjoy your lunch! Ok, time check, here’s a chance to win £300,000 cash…"

At which point co-host Susanna Reid, who appeared delighted at his mistake, interjected: “When it says time check, you’re supposed to say the time. It’s 7:49. Here’s your chance to win £300,000 cash in our biggest competition of the year”.

Meanwhile Morgan tried to recover, saying: “Oh yeah, sorry, yeah sorry. Time check 7:49.”

Reid then proceeded to try and put her hand over Morgan's mouth to stop him making any more errors.

Elsewhere in the programme Morgan branded Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas ‘a piece of work’, for her criticism of his colleague Charlotte Hawkins, who is a contestant in this year’s series.

He told Hawkins: “She’s a piece of work Shirley, isn’t she? She doesn’t like you. She likes the good-looking guys but doesn’t like the pretty girls.

“You looked fine to me, so today we’re going to go to war with Shirley.”

Morgan was referring to the awkward spat Hawkins’ professional dance partner Brendan Cole shared with Ballas, after she called him out for ‘rise and fall’ in their Tango performance.

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays at 6am on ITV.
