The return of ITV’s sports quiz show Play to the Whistle brought two rivals head-to-head: The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh, and Pointless host Richard Osman.

The pair traded jokes about each other’s tea-time quiz shows in the programme as Holly Willoughby stirred the pot.

“You know what, he’s one of my favourite people in the world, Bradley Walsh,” said Osman. “I’ve never seen his show, I’m told it’s very good.”

Walsh revealed that the duo work very closely, and he often sneaks onto the Pointless set.

“Strangely enough, Rich and I record our shows in the next studios to each other, and I normally in my breaks go in and walk on the set and sit in Rich’s chair,” he said.

Osman quipped: “He does, and god bless Bradley because they don’t have an audience on their show. They advertise but no-one turns up!”

Asked by Willoughby which format is better, Walsh stuck up for the ITV show.

“I have to say, I think The Chase is an exciting format because it’s got a very exciting end,” he said,

“He’s saying you’re not exciting, I read between the lines there,” Holly nudged Osman.

“Let’s let six years of viewing figures decide, shall we?,” the Pointless host said, adding that Walsh’s show only gets ahead during “that two weeks of Wimbledon where [The Chase] take over”.

With Osman and Walsh playing on different teams, tune in to see which emerges victorious.
