Sherif Lanre has broken his silence after being booted out of Love Island, telling fans “it is what it is”.

The chef and semi-professional rugby player agreed with producers to leave the show after breaking the rules “in a case of poor judgement”.

Sherif thanked his supporters in a statement on Instagram on Wednesday, and told fans he is “all good,” but continued to stay silent on which rules he broke.

“Thank you to everyone including my friends and family for the support I’ve come back to,” he wrote. “I appreciate you all and hope I provided some good, positive moments during my time on Love Island and for anyone wondering I’m all good.”

He signed off with this year’s catchphrase “it is what it is” alongside a crying with laughter emoji as well as the hashtag “bigger things to come”.

Sherif, who was coupled with Anna Vakili, mutually agreed with show bosses to quit the ITV2 show earlier this week.

A statement from ITV read: “After breaking the villa rules Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa.”

Sherif said: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.

“I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from. I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside.”

He was edited out from the entirety of Tuesday night's show, with narrator Iain Stirling acknowledging his departure with a short one sentence statement which left fans “feeling cheated”.

Former contestant Megan Barton Hanson, who reached last year's final with Wes Nelson, branded Sherif “naïve” and said he must have done something “serious” to get booted out.

“I'm totally baffled,” she wrote in her colum for The Sun. “I don't know what on earth it could have been. I know it's a lot to go into with a show like this and you've got to be willing to stick to all the rules and regulations.”

Love Island is on ITV2, tonight at 9pm
