Single guy Alex Marks is looking for love and has entrusted Channel 5 to find him his perfect match on The Bachelor UK.

Despite a less-than-positive reaction last time around, the dating series is back on screens with Alex hoping to find The One out of 17 ladies.

There to help him through every decision and dilemma is ex-TOWIE star Mark Wright who has packed up his life in the US to become a host-come-agony-uncle for the brand new series.

Here is everything you need to know about The Bachelor UK:

Looking for love: Alex Marks
Channel 5

How does it work?

The show’s premise is simple. Alex is surrounded by beautiful women all hoping to win him over and the power is pretty much completely in his hands. Over the 10 episodes, Alex will get to know each of the 17 single ladies, sending home those he doesn’t hit it off with and dating those he does.

One by one, the girls get given their marching orders at the “rose ceremony” until just one remains – the love of Alex’s life.

Who is the bachelor?

Alex Marks has trusted Channel 5 and their casting executives to find him his perfect match and set him up on a series of romantic and exciting dates.

The 31-year-old, born in London and raised in Kent, runs a personal training business. But under the hardman exterior, Alex is a soft touch with a big heart looking for that special someone to share his life with.

Alex admits that he would like to find the “love of his life” to start a family with, being from a close-knit home as the youngest of three brothers.

What does Mark Wright do?

The reality star and former Extra showbiz presenter is there for Alex every single step of the way – through all his choices and the twists and turns his journey to love has to throw at him. Wright is not only the show’s presenter, but a friend and confidant to Alex.

The star says that he “wants the show to become as massive here” as it is in the United States, and believes it’s a good start for the programme that the single man was appearing for the “right reasons”.

“I wanted to help him and I wanted him to find love because I knew he was there for the right reasons. He really wanted to find love,” Wright told Standard Online.

Confidant: Mark Wright, show host, was there every step of the way to help Alex out

“Anytime he got upset - he did a few times - I was always there to help and give him advice. I enjoyed that and watching his mind being twisted and turned and helping him decide was exciting.”

But Wright did admit to calling Alex a “dope” when he kept on being the “ultimate gentleman”, encouraging him to tap into his “cheeky” side.

He said: “As well as me being a gentleman, he’s like really posh and looks like Hercules and not really a cheeky chap, very straight down the middle. If I were to ask him a cheeky question like ‘come on then, who’s the fittest?’ he’d be like ‘well Mark, I mean who’s the best looking’.

“Then I would pull him up and go ‘shut up you dope, you know what I mean’.”

Who are the girls?

The lucky 17 vary in age, from 21 to 32, but are all hoping to find a future with Alex in the stunning landscapes of South Africa and Antigua.

From models to CEOs to yoga teachers and hairdressers, there is no shortage of personality among the hopeful singletons all ready to get to know Alex.

When is The Bachelor UK on?

The Bachelor UK starts tonight at 10pm on Channel 5, airing weekly. Episodes will be available on My5 shortly after.
