British Olympian Tom Daley has revealed Kylie Minogue was among the first people to congratulate him after he came out.

Daley, 22, announced the news in a YouTube video in 2013 in which he spoke for the first time about his relationship with screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

Speaking in a teaser clip ahead of Tom Daley: Diving For Gold, the Olympic medallist said: “I’ve had loads of supportive texts and stuff. Kylie was the first to text me.”

The new ITV documentary follows Daley on a four-year journey from London 2012 until now, and covers the athlete’s sporting, public and personal life.

Viewers will see Daley as he prepared to make his sexuality public as well as following his engagement to Black – who he proposed to in his underwear in 2015.

Speaking about his relationship with the Milk screenwriter he said: “It means everything to be engaged to Lance because he has been so supportive of me. I have Lance to thank for so many things. I don’t think I would [still] be diving if I hadn’t met Lance.”

Daley is currently training for the Olympic Games in Rio where he will be hoping to beat his bronze medal from four years ago.

He secured two Golds and a Silver Medal at the European Championships in May and said he is going for gold in Rio to make his late father, Rob, proud.

Daley – whose father died from cancer in 2011 – said: “I want to do it in my dad’s memory, I want to make him proud.”

Speaking about Rob, who travelled to competitions worldwide with his son, Daley said: “Losing my dad has made me think about life in such a different way. It’s been weird adapting to life without him but all the lessons that he’s taught me, I’ve tried to live by. I think he’s really shaped me into the person that I am today.”

He added: “I would love for him to be able to say to me what he thinks about what I’ve been doing over the last few years because he didn’t get to see me win my Olympic Medal and he won’t get to see me compete in the next Olympic Games either.”

Tom Daley: Diving For Gold is on ITV at 8pm on July 30.
