Tom Hanks has revealed he wanted a part in Mamma Mia, but his singing voice was too bad.

During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Hanks was asked why he had never acted alongside Meryl Streep before new film The Post.

Hanks explained that he had wanted to appear alongside the actress in Mamma Mia but his ‘singing voice would have scared the children’.

“There was never a whiff of [working together] before, but I was a producer of Mamma Mia and I tried out for a role,” the actor explained.

“I wanted to hire myself, but my singing voice would have scared the children so this is the first time I’ve got to appear with her.”

Elsewhere on the show Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams chatted about how fans of the HBO series ask her to add their names to her character Arya’s kill list.

“My character has a list of the people she wants to kill so people come up to me and ask me to recite the list and add their names at the end,” she commented.

Also appearing on the show this week is boxer Anthony Joshua, with band First Aid Kit performing in the studio.

The Graham Norton Show airs Friday, January 12 at 10.35pm on BBC One.
