It’s been an interesting Tour de France for cycling fans – Mark Cavendish was forced to pull out after breaking his shoulder, a controversial crash saw Slovak Peter Sagan kicked out of the competition, and Chris Froome looks to be heading for yet another victory.

As the epic cycling race reaches its final stages, here’s how you can watch all the weekend’s action from home.

How can I watch it?

The closing stages of the race which sees the cyclists head for Paris will be aired over Saturday July 22 and Sunday July 23, with the competition reaching the final destination of the Champs Élysées on the Sunday.

Viewers can watch the final stages unfold live on ITV4, with Saturday’s action airing from 12.30pm-5pm plus highlights at 7pm and Sunday’s showing at 3.30pm-7pm with highlights at 9pm.

Who’s in contention for the maillot jaune?

British cyclist Chris Froome, who’s defending his title from the 2016 Tour de France, looks set to come out on top once more.

The athlete faces a tough 14-mile time trial in Marseille before what should hopefully be a straightforward journey to Sunday’s closing stage.

How does it work?

The Tour de France is a lengthy multiple stage bike race held mostly in France (though it does occasionally take detours into neighbouring countries).

Taking place largely in July, the competition lasts for just over three weeks and challenges cyclists to negotiate 21 day-long stages.

It’s a particularly scenic tour which sees riders travel through the Pryrenees and the Alps before finishing off with a lap of the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Athletes' finishing times from the various stages are added together and the rider with the lowest score wears the maillot jaune (yellow jersey).
