Facebook group LondonSwedes are hosting Brexit leaving drinks for the UK in Bermondsey

At 11pm on March 29 next year the UK will have officially left the EU, and as departing rituals suggest, it’s only natural we have some leaving drinks.

Facebook group LondonSwedes has organised a leaving bash in a bar in Bermondsey on March 29, kicking off at 7pm and running until 2am — when Britain will no longer be part of the European Union.

LondonSwedes, which is the largest website for the Swedish and Scandinavian community in London and the UK, will host the “UK's Leaving Drinks” at the London Calling Sweden bar on Enid St — although organisers say the location is likely to change due to the amount of interest.

Currently the event has more than 750 attending and just over 3500 interested.

Founder of LondonSwedes Charlotte Agren told the Standard: "We have posted a lot of articles about Brexit since 2016 in our community that has over 50,000 members — mostly Swedes in the UK."

She added: "Every time we post something about Brexit there is a heated discussion about what will happen, what's wrong and what's right and opinions of all kinds.

"We just feel we wanted to, for once, actually do something optimistic around it."

However, it’s not the only social media group to create an event for the big day, as many other Facebook pages have popped up with spoof leaving events — one in particular has racked up 7,000 people going and 33,000 interested. The LondonSwedes extravaganza is the largest one in London with a real location.
