Covent Garden Christmas lights switch on 2018: When is it and who will perform?
One of the most popular tourist spots in London is preparing for a festive transformation, with Covent Garden switching on its Christmas lights on November 13.
The Evening Standard had a hands-on role in the lights this year, helping to pick the venue’s 55ft Christmas tree.
The tree sits proudly in the piazza, with the square sparkling with over 115,000 lights from Tuesday. Look out for the Evening Standard’s Insider Christmas baubles hanging on the tree while you’re there, too.
There’ll also be a dazzling reindeer display and the brand new ‘infinity chamber’ light installation in Conduit Court.
It’s set to be a event helping mark the start of Christmas festivities in London. Here’s what you need to know.

The Christmas lights switching on ceremony will begin at 5.45pm on Tuesday November 13.
Who is switching on the lights this year?
The special celebrity guest attending the event on Tuesday has yet to be revealed. However, Kylie Minogue switched on the lights at last year’s event, so expect a guest with similar star power.

Who will perform at the Covent Garden lights switch on?
The Kingdom Choir , who sang at Harry and Meghan’s wedding earlier this year, will perform Stand By Me during the ceremony.
The group also recently performed at the Evening Standard’s Progress 1000 event and the Royal Albert Hall.
Shops will also be open late on the night, with a selection of instore offers available, as well as servings of mince pies, mulled wine and plenty of carol singing.
