Weekend comedy
Since premiering this show last summer, Pappy's Fun Club has shed a member, Brendan Dodds, and become simply Pappy's. The slimmed-down trio is still hilariously silly as they attempt 200 sketches in an hour. They may fail but you'll enjoy watching them try. Simon Amstell has come a long way since Never Mind The Buzzcocks. He is filming a live DVD soon and warms up for it here. Amstell's surprisingly highbrow show revolves around the existential crisis that struck when he found that fame did not automatically bring happiness. Bill Bailey was a hit at the recent C4 Comedy Gala, where his offbeat surrealism was a welcome alternative to wall-to-wall observational comedians. Bailey is trying out new material, so anything could happen, but rumour has it that life's important issues — religion, death, egg custard — will be on his agenda.
